Concord Sailing Center
CSC is the non-profit educational wing of CYC. CSC's goal is to teach both kids and adults how to sail, and provide opportunities to better their skills. We rely heavily on volunteers and our programs continue to grow each year. Our major programs are listed below. CSC Board
- High School Sailing (March – May and August – November) (Wayne Cutler, Coordinator, wcutler at utk.edu). High School sailing is offered on Mondays and Tuesdays during warm weather of the school term. During fall 2005, the following schools (number of team members) participated in the program: Farragut HS (18), Bearden HS (10), Webb School (8), West HS (5), Catholic (4), Walker Academy (4). Oak HS joined the program in spring 2006, and it is anticipated that the Tennessee School for the Deaf will join the program in fall 2006.
- UT Sailing (Wayne Cutler, Advisor, wcutler at utk.edu) – Wed, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4-6:30 during warm weather of the school year.UT Sailing Website

- Opti Clinic (Neil Quigley, Coordinator, nquigley at comcast.net). This weekend clinic and regatta for kids was developed to provide fun and relaxed Opti sailing for beginners, as well as training by instructors for more advanced kids who wanted to improve their skills on the racecourse. The Opti clinic is held in May each year and is well attended by children of CYC members.

- Adult Learn to Sail (Kerry Harkins, Coordinator, kharkins at mindspring.com):
Dates & Times: 6pm-9pm on July 23, 26, 30, and August 2, 6, and 9, 2007. CSC held two sessions of adult learn-to-sail classes in 2005, one session in May and another in October. Classes were attended by a mix of CYC members and non-members, and were taught in the JY-15 boats. These classes are a source of potential new members and several have joined CYC after completing the course. The courses were taught by US-Sailing Certified instructors Kerry Harkins, Bob Patterson. The students learned to rig boats, capsize, tack and jibe, dock, tie knots, and demonstrate all points of sail, and much more – all while having a great time in the process.
Basic Keelboat Certification:
September 10-14 from 6-9pm, and Saturday September 15 from 9am-1pm..
- Sail Camp Update (Suzi Richters, Coordinator, richters at usit.net). Sail Camp was held for four weeks in June 2006 for children ages 8-14. US-Sailing certified instructors teach basic sailing to beginners, and for more advanced students, fine tune these skills for use on the racecourse. When lessons are finished for the day, a lifeguard supervises swim time and on-shore activities are provided as well. Sail Camp continues to be CSCs largest and most ambitious program. Sail Camp for 2007 is scheduled for May 28 to June 28.
- Extended Sailing in July (Neil Quigley, Coordinator, nquigley at comcast.net). Extended sailing is held after Sail Camp ends. During specific afternoons in July, a certified instructor is available at CYC to supervise kids who want to work on the skills listed in the Redbook, or just have some extra practice time.
