How to become a member of the Concord Yacht Club

At this time, the number of memberships is fixed at 230, limited by the current size of our facilities. Typically during the course of a year, several members may leave the area and terminate their membership, creating openings in the membership.

A waiting list of prospective members has been established. Names are added to the waiting list in the order the applications are received. To get your name on the waiting list, you simply need to (print and) fill out the following forms, attach a check for $25 to cover the application fee, and send the package to the Club Secretary, Bonnie McCormick, 1512 Mont Cove Blvd, Knoxville, TN 37922.

Please print these forms "portrait" style.

Additional Information about Membership:

Application Fee
A non-refundable $25 "filing fee" will accompany all applications for membership. This fee will be applied to the initiation fee upon joining the Club. Applications for membership will be considered in the order of their receipt.

Initiation Fee and Bond
When there is a vacancy, the applicant at the head of the waiting list will be invited to membership and will be asked to make an appointment to be introduced to members of the CYC Board. The initiation fee is $300 plus $27.75 state service tax (less the $25 non-refundable application fee) and the membership certificate is a $230 Bond, which sum together comes to $505.00 and is payable when the applicant is introduced to the CYC Board of Directors. At this time, annual dues are also payable; however, the dues are pro-rated from the first month of membership through the end of the calendar year. The Board meets the second Tuesday evening of each month. Upon resignation from the Club the Bond is repurchased from the holder.

Annual Dues
Active members dues are $320 plus $29.60 tax per year, and are billed in January. New members obligate themselves to pay at least one full year's dues regardless of the length of their tenure in the Club.

Work Hours
In addition to annual dues, each active membership in CYC contributes ten (10) "work" hours of service annually; members may elect to pay $20 per hour in lieu of hours not served. Work hours are credited for services such as work parties (usually during the month of March), committee work (social, telephone, etc.), or assistance with regattas and social events.

Other Policies
Orientation. Initiates are asked to attend the next new-member orientation session; this instruction is offered early in the spring and fall of each year.

Race Committee Duty. In addition to work hours members serve on race committee duty once each year during the high-water racing season (April through October). Prior race committee experience is not required. Members may elect to pay $50 in lieu of race committee duty.

Sailboat Ownership. Concord Yacht Club promotes the sport of sailing as in racing, cruising, and day sailing. Although most members own their own sailboat (individually or in partnership with another member), ownership of a sailboat is not required. For a modest annual fee members may join the JY 15 fleet and sail one of the Club-owned boats.

Sailboat parking. All boat spaces at CYC are assigned on a seniority basis. CYC offers dry racks for small boats, parking spaces for trailerable boats, summer docks for boats over 2000 pounds displacement, year-round moorings, and year-round floating docks (extra fee) for auxiliary boats. Prospective applicants will want to ask about space availability, for membership in CYC does not guarantee the opportunity to keep one's boat on the premises.
