Adult Learn To Sail Lessons
PLEASE NOTE: Both May 2012 classes are FULL. Registrations are accepted on a first-come basis and each class has a limit of nine students. It is possible students already registered may have to withdraw prior to May 1, opening up spots. If you wish to be placed on the waiting list please send a completed registration form to the address below. DO NOT send a check at this time. You will be notified prior to May 1 if a spot opens, at which time payment will be due.
Another class is scheduled in September. You may register for that class at this time, if you wish. If you wish to be placed on the May wait list and subsequently enrolled in the September class if you do not get into the May class, please note that on the registration form.
Adult Learn to Sail is the adult sailing educational program run by Concord Sailing Center (CSC), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
Three courses will be offered during 2012-- two to run concurrently in May and one in September. Details below:
Learn to sail at the Concord Yacht Club! Our basic learn to sail classes are designed for adults with little or no sailing experience. The only pre-requisite is that you must be able to swim 50 yards without a life jacket (a swimming test is conducted on the first night of class).

Keelboat Certification Course
First Classes 2012
Two classes will run concurrently from May 1 through May 19. Each registrant should note on the registration form which class they wish to take -- Tuesday/Thursday or Wednesday/Friday.
Class One: Will meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, May 1, 3, 8, 10, 15, 17 and during the day on Saturday May 19.
Class Two: Will meet on Wednesday and Friday evenings, May 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18 and during the day on Saturday, May 19.
Weekday classes will meet from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Times for the Saturday testing (written and on-the-water skills) will be determined just prior to May 19 based upon the day's wind forecast.
Final testing for both classes (for those seeking US Sailing Basic Keelboat Certification) will be Saturday, May 19. The testing is not mandatory for those just wishing to learn to sail.
Third Class 2012
Will meet on Wednesday and Friday evenings, Sept. 12, 14, 19, 21, 26, 28 and during the day Saturday, Sept. 29.
Cost for each class - $425 per person

The Basic Keelboat Certification is the first stepping stone in US Sailing's Keelboat Certification System.
The course will be taught in Catalina 22s and a J24 will include six evenings of sailing instruction. One additional day (a Saturday) at the conclusion of the course will include a written test, knot-tying test, and sailing skills test. Students who successfully complete US Sailing's basic keelboat certification class will be able to responsibly skipper and crew a daysailing keelboat in familiar waters in light to moderate wind conditions.
Skills taught during the course will include:
- Rigging and de-rigging the boat,
- Starting, stopping, and controlling boat speed while sailing,
- Leaving and returning to the dock under sail or outboard, as appropriate,
- Using sail controls,
- Tacking, jibing, and getting out of the no-go-zone,
- Sailing around a set course,
- Basic navigation rules,
- The heave-to maneuver,
- Depowering sails,
- Overboard recovery methods, and more.

Registrations are on a first-come, first-served basis. Class size is limited based upon the availability of instructors and boats, so please register early. You will receive an email confirming your place in class when we receive your registration materials. No refunds will be made for students who cancel less than two weeks prior to the first night of class.
